How to recover deleted items in Gmail

Gmail is one the most popular internet based webmail in the world, it is powered by Google and has a huge storage space for saving your mails and important files online, its possible recover a deleted mail within 30 days of deleting it, as it sits in a folder known as "Trash". If you have deleted it forever, from your "Trash" and "Spam" folders, then its lost from the internet data warehouse forever. Your Gmail account may have been compromised and internet hackers may have deleted important mails: in that case you should report the activity to Google to safeguard your email account. Otherwise, deleted mails sit in the "Trash" folder and can be moved back into your inbox.

Issue

I deleted a mail sent by my friend last year from my gmail account. I felt very bad for deleting it and have been trying to recover it for the past 6 or 7 months with no luck.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get it back?

Solution

There is a way of getting old emails back. It appears that there is no trash bin but there is. Go to your Gmail account. From the main page after you have logged in, in the sidebar you will see a list:
Compose mail
Inbox
Starred
Sent Mail
Drafts

Followed by any folders you may have and then you will see "more"
  • Click on "More" and it should show chats, all mail, trash and spam.
  • Click on trash and go through it, like you would normally go through your inbox.

Sadly anything that has been in there for thirty days or more has probably been deleted. You may still be able to find it.
  • When you have found the emails select them and click move to "inbox"
